ATENEA
This tool allows to obtain AEP (Annual Energy Production) and AEP losses depending on the blade erosion progression due to rain and the wind turbine operational conditions. Moreover, the estimation of differentiated erosion for each blade section can be analyzed.
Presentation
ATENEA combines the aeroelastic tool OpenFAST with an airfoil performance model (APM) developed with machine learning to obtain AEP depending on the blade erosion progression due to rain and the wind turbine operational conditions.
This tool has been developed by CENER in T4.4 of the AIRE project.
Capabilities
AEP Over Years
Analyze Annual Energy Production of a wind turbine over different years based on a specific meteo series.
AEP Losses
Calculate AEP losses with respect to the first year of the provided meteo series.
Erosion Evolution
Evolution estimation of differentiated erosion for each blade section depending on the WT’s operation (controller-dependent).
Erosion Status Categories
Classification according to the IEA-Task46 erosion status categories (differentiated for blades and power).
CpCt Curves
Generate and analyze Power Coefficient (Cp) and Thrust Coefficient (Ct) curves.
Power Curves
Extract and evaluate comprehensive power curves under degraded states.
Hypotheses & Assumptions
- Blades starting point is clean state.
- The airfoil geometry whose erosion is simulated is the one with the most similar polar curve from APM database.
- To optimize calculations, we maintained the RPM and AoA obtained from the clean configuration.
- ATENEA only considers the constant erosion region over the airfoils.
- The erosion zone includes the leading edge.
- Same damage is applied on all three blades.
- Maximum impact speed.
- The blades erode once a year.
- To compensate for conservative assumptions, damage incubation parameters adjusted.
- Non-configurable material properties.
